Curious about Clearwire?

Wireless broadband firm Clearwire is no stranger to the headlines. Ever since the company announced last May that it would merge with Sprint Nextel's WiMAX business to create a new company (with a $3.2 billion investment from Google, Intel, Comcast, Time Warner and others) there has been lots of speculation about how this complicated new venture will fare in the marketplace.

At the center of it all is Clearwire CEO Ben Wolff, who will be heading up the new Clearwire venture once the deal closes in the fourth quarter. Wolff has be outspoken in his belief that the new Clearwire will dramatically advance wireless and create an entirely new ecosystem where WiMAX is incorporated into all types of consumer electronics devices.

I'll be talking to Wolff about his vision for the new Clearwire and more during my video interview with him, which will air on Oct. 15 as part of FierceWireless' first-ever virtual event, The Future of 4G: An Interactive Executive Summit. The event is free and will take place at a highly convenient location--your desktop. Be sure to tune in. Register here today. --Sue

Google want to invest no more than $500 million in ClearWire why?

Great article by By Raju Shanbhag

"In partnership with Nortel (News - Alert), T-Mobile claims it is the first wireless network operator to demonstrate next-generation mobile communications (referred to as NGMN for short) successfully under real-world, everyday conditions. The company successfully demonstrated the use of Long Term Evolution (LTE (News - Alert)) technology."

Plus everyone else is going with LTE!

Can someone clarify the place of LTE as an additional flavor of broadband Internet access like Wimax for consumers?

Another hype with Clearwire after Sprint !
